Alternate Universe Movie Posters

These are so fantastic. The Bill Finger credit on the Joker movie (in 1979!) almost brought a tear to my eye. I'd like to live in the alternate reality where Bill Finger didn't die an unacknowledged alcoholic in '74.

Oliver Munday's Zany Vision for 826DC

The roster of 826 writing center storefronts includes everything from a Time Travel Mart to a Pirate Supply Shop. Adding to that young but grand tradition is the newest location in Washington, D.C. Originally established as Capitol Letters Writing Center in 2008, it was relaunched in October 2010 and now doubles as The Museum of Unnatural History.

To bring the place to life with 826's trademark zaniness, its proprietors enlisted the help of the top notch designer (and occasional GOOD contributor) Oliver Munday. In the following photos, look as Munday manages to use his unique aesthetic voice within 826's existing visual language to create everything from the exterior walls to the packaging of the products on its shelves, with the end results resembling an early-20th-century explorers club.

Hoxton Street Monster Supplies

A real store in actual real existence, the Hoxton Street Monster Supplies stocks top quality goods for everyday monsters, and the monsters in all of us. We Made This took the idea, and executed a perfect old-world apothecary with hand-stuck labels and painted door signs. The most interesting part of this store? Behind a cupboard lies a secret stairway to lead up to a writing school for kids, called Ministry of Stories. The store is actually a fake front for a writing centre where kids aged 8-18 can get one-to-one tuition with professional writers and other volunteers.

Born out of an idea of the 826 literacy project by Dave Eggers, this is one project that is perfect all over, inside and out.

The Delorean Time Machine Hard Drive ($250) is a 1:18 scale replica of the iconic Delorean from Back to the Future, with details like working doors and hood, a Mr. Fusion reactor, and 1950's wheels + rims, plus a 500 GB Seagate hard drive buried inside. Let's just hope this time machine doesn't fall into the wrong hands, lest your private photo collection become the property of the Internets.

Dead Horse Bay - by Nathan Kensiger

Creepiness is all around us these days, although what we are about to show you, is not exactly about the coolest Halloween Party in Town. New York photographer Nathan Kensiger went out to Barren Island (aka Dead Horse Bay) to document the the apocalyptic scenario that depicts the beach today immersed in a scary silence that gives you the feeling of the doomsday.

The whole thing began in 1850s when horses were the main source of transportation. After horses and other animals were giving their last breath, their carcasses were still useful for creating glue, fertilizer and other products. After that, the boiled bones were dumped into the bay.

By the 1920s, when horses were no longer the main way of transport, only one rendering plant was still working and huge amounts of sand, garbage and coal were poured into the surrounding waters. Today, what was once the Barren Island is covered with bottles, toys, horse bones, letter shoes, rusty telephones and many pieces of plastic and metal which are continuously leaking into the ocean.

Mouth Watering Foodscapes

London-based artist Carl Warner creates amazing food landscapes he refers to as foodscapes. Whether he uses vegetables, various bakery products or meat, his incredible foodscapes are entirely edible and look absolutely mindblowing.

The process usually starts with him drawing a sketch of the foodscape, then the set is created, and finally, he takes photos of it and retouches them on his Mac.

11/100 (Patent Pending Industries 1999 - 2010)

Eleven years ago Jeff Kleinsmith and Jesse LeDoux left Sub Pop Records' art department and formed Patent Pending Industries, designing posters that channel the analog days of graphic design, a time when hand-drawn illustrations were the norm. The highly influential duo—who "met while whizzing tomatoes at oncoming trucks"—has since created an immense portfolio of work, blending computer-based design with hand-drawn illustrations to create the unique imagery and typography featured on hundreds of posters for numerous bands.

The upcoming retrospective "11/100 Patent Pending Industries 1999 - 2010" celebrates their long history of design and printmaking, displaying nearly all of their works in their entirety at Seattle's Design Commission Gallery.

Opening 5 August 2010, the show runs through 1 October 2010.

A few months ago, Neatorama featured Bruce and Melanie Rosenbaum’s amazing steampunk house. The Rosenbaums have continued to steam up their residence, most recently with this fully-functional desk:

Everything decked in for the Command Desk compilation is authentic Victorian antique. Then be it the inverted Chapel organ pipes mounted on the wall behind the setup, or the all-in-one workstation desk completed in 3 monitors, printer, scanner and webcam, of course the keyboard and other peripherals included. The Victorian Organ Command Desk besides the aforementioned, has a iPhone doc, horn speakers on either side, USB and card media readers, a scanner under the keyboard, a clock face flanked in 6 LCD digital picture frame displays and a pair of coach lamps with neon flicker bulbs for all that ambience required.

Hitchcock Posters Reimagined

There’s a certain familiarity to modernizing and re-envisioning posters for Alfred Hitchcock’s wonderful films, and Laz Marquez has these sizzling contributions. After he did The Birds, he took suggestions from his followers on what else to do.

I sincerely hope you all enjoyed seeing this project come to life as much as I loved creating them. It’s great to see the set together and working as a whole. Thanks again for all the support & keep your eyes peeled for the next set (Starting very, very soon)!
