Master of Miniatures - Nikolai Aldunin

Can you imagine how steady your hand must be to create one of these miniature masterpieces? One breath could literally destroy an entire collection...

Coined the master of miniatures, Russian artist Nikolai Aldunin works between the beats of his heart, in order to keep his hands perfectly still. Using superglue, syringes and toothpicks, he creates works of art so tiny, a microscope is needed to see them.

Aldunin's work naturally leads to some frustration. While crafting a miniature rifle, he lost the weapon's butt after having worked on it for two weeks. "I had a sit-down and a smoke and calmed down," he said, then decided to start all over again. "You musn't get into a state or worry. Everything that you feel in your soul is transmitted to your hands."

25 Magnificent Modern Day Movie Illustrations

While putting together this post, I had a hard time with the title. I was going to include the words retro or vintage but then I thought - Are most of these retro or are some of these modern? Here was my conclusion: While some of these illustrations have that retro-feel, most are a modern take on a movie classic.

What these artists have done so well is take a particular scene or character and create a visual representation of the movie. Most of the time, rather than bombard us with visuals, they ask us to draw on our experiences. From Olly Moss's incredibly simplistic black and red movie posters to Tom Whalen and Brandon Schaefer's more colorful, retro-inspired art, I hope you enjoy this collection of some of the most cleverest and coolest retro-modern movie illustrations around!

Kurniawan sublime

Ronald Kurniawan is inspired by ideograms, syllables, letterforms, beasts and heroic landscapes. He continues to create a visual language where the wilderness and civilization could merge happily together.

With the belief that the sublime and nuclear age could coexist, he paints romantic environments and breaks the quiet scene with juxtaposed imagery where wild creatures inhabit fantastically colorful and detailed universes.
